Robert K. Balmer III, age 60, of Braham and formerly of Pine City, died unexpectedly at home May 4, 2018. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 12th at Strike Life Tributes in Cambridge. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Robert Kendall Balmer, III was born in Cleveland, OH on December 9, 1957 to Faith and Robert Balmer, Jr. Bob, as he was known to his family and friends, graduated from West Geauga High School in Chesterland, Ohio in 1976. He served in the United States Army for 2 years after graduating high school. He then moved to Texas, where he worked at the Steak & Shake, a local air field for Piper aircraft, and then as a pressman for the Huston Chronicle.
While in Texas, he met and married the love of his life, Tina. The two were married on April 21, 1979 and were inseparable until she passed away in 2005. They had 1 precious daughter, Mary Lou in 1987.
In 1988, they moved to Minnesota, where Bob started working as a Journeyman Pressman at the Duluth Tribune. They moved further south, and he started working at the St. Paul Pioneer Press, where he remained for 25+ years until the printing plant closed in 2014.
Bob was an avid fisherman and was always ready to throw out a line. He enjoyed spending time with his family and working on wood carvings.
Bob passed away unexpectedly on May 4, 2018 at his home in Braham, MN at the age of 60 years, 4 months and 25 days. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Christina “Tina” Balmer; parents, Robert K. Balmer, Jr. & Faith Balmer; brother, Jeffery S. Balmer; and sister, Laura K. Balmer.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Lou Rose Hohensee (Balmer) and husband, Nathaniel of Braham; nephews, Charles (Ky) Marks and Zac Balmer; nieces, Michelle Bowens and Cassandra (Jayce) Aslakson.
