Joyce “Kookie” Spano, age 84, of Bethel died October 2, 2018 at ARC Assisted Living in Anoka. Celebration of Life 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 13th at the East Bethel Senior Community Center, 2241 221st Ave NE, East Bethel. A time for visiting will be held one hour prior to the service and a lunch will follow.
Joyce “Kookie” Hallie Spano was born April 22, 1934 in NE Minneapolis to Richard and Helen (Gressman) Boker. She passed away peacefully October 2, 2018 in Anoka at the age of 84 years. She may have been small in stature, but her heart and her personality were huge. She was loved very much and will be dearly missed.
Kookie did many things throughout her life, showing her compassion and generosity by making over 300 blankets for children staying in the Ronald McDonald House; her curiosity and adventurous spirit by traveling anywhere she could go; her creativity by cooking, woodworking, drawing, crocheting & many other crafts; and her willingness to try new things, including having a Chinese restaurant.
She is survived by daughter Sherry Marie; son Duane (Evi) Spano; four grandchildren, Neil (Julie) Rand, Sofia (Chris) Way, Thomas (Stacy) Leach, and Donald Leach; 7 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and also her brother Donald Boker.
