Carol R. Holmgren, age 70, of Cambridge died November 2, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids. A memorial service will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, NOVEMBER 10th at Cambridge Lutheran Church. A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Friday, November 9th at Strike Life Tributes in Cambridge and also one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Carol Rose Schroeder was born December 27, 1947 to parents Arnold J. and Theresa E. (Simon) Schroeder in Dubuque, Iowa. She grew up in rural Grant County, Wisconsin and graduated from Potosi High School in 1966. Carol married Milton W. Tinkham on August 7, 1965 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dickeyville, WI. Together they had three daughters, Yolanda, Rhonda, and Melissa. On October 16, 1975, Carol married Frank Paul Holmgren in Clear Lake, South Dakota and she gained a son, Keith and another daughter, Kendra.
Together Carol and Frank spent over 40 happy years with their family at home on Skogman Lake in rural Cambridge. On August 7, 1994 Carol was blessed to receive a second chance at life with the gift of a kidney transplant. It gave her a new lease on life and a passion for helping others. With her new lease on life, Carol become a passionate volunteer for many organizations and mentor to many people. She served tirelessly on the Board of Directors of the Isanti County Home Delivered Meals Program as well as being a Service Volunteer. Shortly after receiving her successful kidney transplant, she served as a patient counselor to individuals suffering from kidney failure as well as to transplant patients.
One of her greatest passions became serving our veterans, their families and the community through the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of Howard McCarty Unit 290 in Cambridge. She served her local Unit with dedication and enthusiasm in most capacities including Unit President numerous times. She also was well known in the area as the Bingo caller for Unit #290. She served as the Minnesota 10th District President in 1995-1996, and from 2004-2005 Carol served with great pride as the President of American Legion Auxiliary Department of Minnesota. Carol also served as the American Legion Auxiliary Northwestern Divisional National Vice President for the year 2007-2008. Through the American Legion family, Carol and Frank found many lifelong friends who shared their interests and passions.
Carol R. Holmgren passed away November 2, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, at the age of 70 years 10 months and 6 days. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Leo, Paul and Gerald; and sister, Geraldine.
Carol is survived by her husband Frank, and five children; Keith Holmgren of Carlsbad, CA, Yolanda (Kevin) Dailey of Menomonee Falls, WI, Kendra (William) Salmon of Fayetteville, NC, Rhonda (Peter) DeBartoli of Staten Island, NY, Missy (Chris) Golden of Cambridge, MN; ten grandchildren, Trever, Maddie, Bill, Reggie, Michael, Matt, James, Gabriella, Brianna, Martina; many nieces, nephews, cousins and treasured friends.
