Leroy Gilbert Jones was born on July 9, 1936, and died unexpectedly at his home on January 6, 2019.
Lee was born in Hartford, South Dakota at home. He moved with his family to Mora, Minnesota when he was a child. His family had a dairy farm and he loved that life. As a young man, he went into the Air Force and was stationed in Germany where he made lifelong friendships. Lee was a self-employed drywall contractor most of his life. After he married Peggy they raised bison and founded the Trails End Bison. This adventure moved them from Isanti to Hinckley on a 160-acre farm. Where they had horses and other animals. Lee loved life and lived it to the fullest, he skydived for the first time at the age of 79 and loved it so much he did it again on his 80th birthday. He had many adventures and was great storyteller. He didn’t just sit by and let life pass him by he enjoyed it. He had many wonderful years up at the cabin four-wheeling. You could always stop by grab a cup of coffee or a drink depending on the time of day and have a lively conversation about current events or old times.
He is preceded in death by his parents Bruce Jones and Bernus Hanson, first wife of 20 years Mary Lou Jones and second wife of 27 years Marguerite ‘Peggy’ Jones. Three stepsons, Nick, Chuck and Tracy Jorgenson.
He is survived by girlfriend Helen Paxton, children Kim (Cy) Ferguson, Robin (Todd) Seifert, Danielle (Jake) Cahlander, Janise Lindbloom, Dale (Kari) Shortell, stepson Butch Jorgenson, 25 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, siblings Larry Jones, and Karen Toyer.
Robin, I am sorry for your great loss. My condolences and prayers to you and your family.
When I think of Lee I remember times in the nook at the house on 47, I remember his big sheet rock truck & the yellow one, saw them often when he picked Robin up from school. Moonshine that made my high school boyfriend blackout!
Most recently i picked grapes from his fence to make jelly that failed. (My fault not the grapes.)
I wish that I had hugged him & thanked him for the amazing girls he raised. There are no words to ease the hurt we all know that, but we have stories & they wil make us smile.
My deepest sympathy to all!
With love & fond memories,
