Gary W. Smith, age 76, of Cedar, died June 1, 2019 at the Cambridge Medical Center. The Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 15th at Strike Life Tributes in ISANTI with visitation 1 hour before the service. Interment will be at Cedar Cemetery in Cedar, Minnesota.
Gary William Smith was born September 20, 1942 in St. Paul to Ernest and Esther (Wennerlund) Smith. He was raised in Cedar and graduated from St. Francis High School. He assisted his father in the repair of trucks, cars and farm machinery for many years. He worked with recycling for Oak Grove Public Works for several years. Gary’s memory of makes of cars and tractors as well as of the people in the community was exceptional. In his earlier years Gary enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and working on his lawn. He loved the outdoors and just being outside.
Gary died at the Cambridge Medical Center on June 1, 2019 at the age of 76 years. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Richard. He is survived by his brother, Timothy (JoAnn) of Cedar; sister-in-law, Ruth of Mora; 6 nieces and nephews, Brian (Patti), Brent (Karen) and Terry (Joey); LuAnn (Matt), Amanda (Dan) and Bradley (Laryssa); 9 great nieces and nephews; and by many other relatives and friends.
Sorry I missed the service. I only met Gary a couple times up at the shack. I’ll always remember him smashing cans in the morning to wake us up for breakfast.
