Florence Leocadia Lauseng was born November 28, 1928 in Grenville, South Dakota to Anton and Elizabeth (Helwig) Block. She passed away peacefully at the Prairie Senior Cottages in Isanti, MN on August 27, 2019 at the age of 90 years, 8 months and 30 days.
She was raised and attended school in Grenville. Upon completion of high school she attended college in Aberdeen, South Dakota and obtained her teaching certificate. She taught school and while in Waubay, South Dakota, Florence saw Gilbert “Gil” Lauseng and knew he was the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. They were married on August 26, 1947 in Grenville and made their first home in Minneapolis, MN. They also lived in Rush City and Isanti before moving to Garrison, MN after retirement. Along with being a busy homemaker she also worked at Federal Cartridge in Anoka, MN for many years. Florence had a strong Catholic faith and raised her children with that faith. She was active in church, especially after retirement at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Garrison. Florence was also active in the VFW Auxiliary. She loved cooking, baking, making jelly, crocheting, cross stitching, collecting Precious Moments, playing cards and especially spending time with her grandchildren. After Gil passed away, Florence moved back to Isanti to be closer to her family where she lived at Meadows Edge Apartments. Three years ago she moved into Prairie Senior Cottages in Isanti and remained there until her death.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gil; infant daughter, Pam; daughter Judy Adler; brothers and sisters Ed, George, Betty and Harlan, and three great-grandchildren Aloysius, Esme and Hazel.
She is survived by four children, Linda (Charlie) Olson, Doug (Kim) Lauseng, Robbie Masters, and Buck (Janice) Lauseng; son-in-law, John Adler; 12 grandchildren, Jody, Jeannie, Johnny, Cameron, Melissa, Jason, Tiffany, Brittany, Danielle, Travis, Amanda and Brandon; 42 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren and by many other special relatives and friends.
She was loved dearly and will be missed by so many.
A very special thank you to Prairie Senior Cottages and St. Croix Hospice staff for the compassion, love and care given to Florence.
