Gloria Laverne Sundstrom, age 93, of Coon Rapids passed away at her nieces home in Coon Rapids on September 8, 2019. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 14th at Strike Life Tributes – ISANTI. Visitation will begin 1 hour prior to the service.
Gloria was born Gloria Laverne Lindberg on August 30, 1926 to Clarence and Agnes (Norberg) Lindberg. She was born on her Grandpa Lars Lindberg’s farm in Isanti, Minnesota. Gloria was the fourth child born to the family. Shortly after birth, the family moved to her Grandpa John Norberg’s farm in Blomford, Minnesota and attended Blomford grade school. The family then moved to the Bradford area where she lived until she graduated from Cambridge High School in 1945.
Gloria worked in Minneapolis living with her sister, Doris. On November 28, 1959 she married Walter Sundstrom from Tower, Minnesota. She was a true faithful servant to the Lord and attended most of her married life at Spring Lake Park Baptist Church. Gloria did not have children but loved and was loved by many nieces and nephews. The most important thing to her was their salvation. She would even pick them up and take them to church if their parents weren’t able.
Gloria worked for 36 years at Munsingwear in Minneapolis. She was able to supply her nephews with a lifetime supply of T-shirts and underwear. After an early retirement, she and Walt bought a cabin on Big Sandy Lake next to her sister, Doris. In April of 2000, Gloria lost Walt to brain cancer. She spent much of the rest of her life living with her sister, Doris; for years in Doris’ home in Fridley, and then living together at Homestead at Anoka. Gloria lost her best friend and sister in July of 2018, followed by her other sister, Grace in December of 2018. Gloria lived by herself until June of 2019 at which time she moved in with her niece.
On August 25th Gloria had a big 93rd birthday party with all of her brother’s and sister’s kids in attendance. She smiled the whole day. Almost as if she was waiting until after her party, Gloria’s health started to deteriorate quickly. Without saying, most knew it would be their last time seeing her.
Gloria passed on September 9, 2019 under the care of her niece and Allina Hospice. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Agnes (Norberg) Lindberg; sister, Gladys; brothers, Charles (Raymond) and Vernon Lindberg; and sisters, Doris Larson and Grace Hammar.
Gloria is survived by her brother, Warren Lindberg of Edina, and most recently of San Jose, California; sister-in-law, Shirley (Johnson) Lindberg of New Brighton and many nieces and nephews.
