John S. Munday, age 79, of Isanti, died unexpectedly at his home on October 26, 2019. A Memorial service will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Friday, November 1st at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in East Bethel, 19001 Jackson Street NE. Visitation will begin at 4:00 P.M. at the church.
John (Jack) Steffen Munday of Isanti, MN, age 79 passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 26, 2019. He was born July 17, 1940 to John Lawson Munday and Sadie Steffen Munday.
Jack graduated from DePaul University and worked as a Patent & Trademark Attorney for 50 years. In 1983 he decided to go to Seminary and received his Masters of Divinity in 1986 from the Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary and in 1988 graduated from Princeton Seminary with a Master of Theology. Jack was on the Board of Habitat for Humanity in Philadelphia, PA and Salisbury MD. Jack was also one of 5 parents who met at our home in Drexel Hill, PA to start the Chapter of Compassionate Friends of Delaware County. He was on the Presbyterian Church Task Force on Central America which ended in him and other members of the task force being invited to the White House during the Regan administration which led to Jack and Fran leading delegations to Central America. Jack served on the Minneapolis Area Synod and also served on the ELCA National Church Council and worked on the Social Statement on Criminal Justice. Besides serving nationally, Jack was in his community serving on the Board of the Long Lake Improvement District. Jack also was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where he met many dear friends, was involved with feeding the homeless, welcoming all neighbors, a partner in the Equal Exchange Fair Trade Sales and spear heading Intercessory Prayer.
Jack had a passion for writing. He said, “I spent the first 50 years of my life not writing, and I expect to correct that,” and since then, 10 books have been written and published. At 6’7” he was truly a gentle giant. Soft spoken, caring and loving.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Frances Wohlenhaus-Munday, children JD Munday (Cheryl) of Cinnaminson, NJ, Maria Stine (Richard) of Red Lion, PA, Shawn Munday (Pilar) of Fairfield, CT, stepchildren Ray Wohlenhaus (Kelly) of Andover, MN, Lynn Winger (Jay) of Isanti, MN,12 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren, sister Beth Brownson of Downers Grove, IL.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John & Sadie Munday and stepdaughters Julie Dodge and Marlys Ann Wohlenhaus.
Funeral arrangements: Visitation at 4:00 p.m. and service at 5:00
p.m. on Friday Nov. 1st at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 19001 Jackson Street NE, East Bethel, MN 55011. Private burial.
