Marie L. Bakke, age 69, of St. Francis died January 15, 2020 at home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, JANUARY 25th at Strike Life Tributes in CAMBRIDGE. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Marie was born August of 1950 to Pat and Jerry Peterson and grew up on the family farm in Bristol, SD. She married at a young age, moved to Minnesota and soon had her hands full raising two sons. Marie was a born entrepreneur and owned many businesses throughout her life. She was a successful Real Estate Broker and co-owner of Green Realty in St. Francis, MN. Marie was a well-known and respected member of the community. She loved to find deals and enjoyed thrift store shopping. She would spend hours searching for bargains. News of her passing sent shockwaves through the Thrift Store industry. “The loss of profits will be felt for years to come,” said one industry insider. The Minnesota Thrift Store Association has ordered all thrift stores in the state to be closed for business by 10:00 pm Saturday, Jan 25th until Sunday the 26th at 9:00 am in her honor. She also enjoyed country music, travel, trips to the casino, motorcycles, and people. Marie was funny, loved to laugh and spend time with her family and many friends. She was incredibly smart, everyone learned from her and if you didn’t, you weren’t listening. She was one of a kind and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Marie is preceded in death by son, Travis and father, Jerry. She is survived by son, Trever Bakke; granddaughter, Madeline Bakke; mother, Pat Peterson and sister, Sherry Zimmerman. Special Thanks to Vicki Cerqua, friend and caregiver.
Marie worked hard and partied hard. Overall, a life well lived with stories to be shared and tales to be told. Please send stories to be shared to MemoriesofMarie@mail.com

Marie was one of the best cousins a person could have. I was fortunate to have been able to have spent many memorable moments with her while I was a child as well as an adult.
I’m going to miss her wisecracks, her dimples and her absolutely fabulous thrifting abilities.
Give Uncle Gerry and Travis hugs for me ♡

Sadly, time has a way of slipping away before you know it. Unfortunately, I have many fond memories of Marie when we were a lot younger, but not enough as the years passed. I will always remember Sturgis though. I will miss you but I know we will see each other again . I always wanted your dimples. Love you girl!

I have to say “Marie” is one of my best friends. We met only a few years ago, but became friends quickly. When I moved from Minnesota to Alaska, Marie took care of my pets until I was able to find housing for myself and them. I since visited her a few times. She kept “Sweetness”/potbelly pig and “Wendell”/goose and stated everyone loved them on her farm. I loved being there at the farm and walking around the beauty she created. I have never seen such an amazing decorator. I loved being at her home and it literally took hours for all her stories and thrift prizes. I was making plans to visit Minnesota this summer and spend time with her. Zoey/my husky became very attached to her. I almost felt bad taking Zoey back to Alaska, she loved Marie. Marie visited me here in Alaska and what an experience it was. I loved what time we spent together and WOW all the fun memories. She had the most beautiful and genuine smile, and how she laughed. I am so proud to have known her, what an amazing lady. My regret is not spending more time with her. Always in my thoughts and heart.. see you later my friend!

Marie had a way of making everybody happy around her.
She had the best “dimples” and was beautiful inside and out.
My condolences to the family.
Tenderly, may time heal your sorrow. Gently, may your friends ease your pain. Softly, may peace replace heartaches. And may warmest memories remain.”

Marie will be missed dearly, she was always happy and laughing, when you were with her you knew you were going to be laughing all night, I remember a time I was working at her house and I tried to wash the 3 pane window the kind you can just turn and wash the outside well I did that something happened and it fell 3 stories down and exploded on the concrete and what did she do laughed she was only worried about me making sure I was OK. She had a big heart and cared about everyone. I will miss her. Prayers sent to family and friends… RIP.

My deepest sympathy. Marie will be missed. Marie was always up for anything. Loved her smile, her laugh and being around her. I always looked up to her….I am sure in my younger years I was a “pest” because I always wanted to be around her. No more pain….rest in peace….give Grandma and Uncle Jerry a hug from me and I am sure there is a game of “guts “ going on….love you forever Marie.

We are very saddened to hear of our classmate and friend’s passing and was looking forward to re-connecting with her at our upcoming BHS reunion. Marie and I were “best friends” many school years at Andover Elementary, Bristol Jr. High, and High School. She was a bright, personable, good-humored, intelligent and sincere person. So many activities together such as cheerleading, school clubs, bus rides, holidays and special events like Proms, Graduations, etc.
Our fondest memory of our friendship and Marie’s thoughtfulness was her support of our family when our daughter, Dawn, was hospitalized at U of MN for heart surgery. I spent several nights with the Bakkes who lived close to the hospital. It helped us greatly to have a break and stamina to return to the hospital each day.
Marie’s friendship was a loving gift that she gave so freely without hesitation. She will be deeply missed and cannot be replaced. She was a very special, beautiful “one of a kind” woman!
