Douglas Mark Ewert was born February 20, 1950 in Saint Peter, Minnesota to John and Edith (Claunch) Ewert. He attended Cleveland High School and graduated in the year of 1968.
After graduating high school, he attended St. Paul Bible College where he met his first wife Sandra Marie Wilkins, and with her bore three sons, Joshua, Caleb, and Luke. Doug then eventually moved to Milaca where he then helped support his sons, and eventually met his 2nd wife Darlene Anderson.
As a good, solid Christian man, Doug held many things close to his heart, God, music, friendships and of course, his family. As someone who loved to perform music for his lord and for his friends, he never missed a chance to play on the praise and worship team for whatever church he attended and certainly never missed a jam session where he would brandish his banjo skills.
On July 3rd, 2020, Douglas passed away at Abbott Northwestern Hospital at the age of 70 to be with the Lord that he served. He is preceded in death by his parents; John and Edith Ewert, and older sister; Georgia Ree.
Doug will be lovingly remembered by his Wife, Darlene; sons, Joshua (Casey) Ewert, Caleb Ewert, and Lucas Ewert; step-children, Robin (Doug) Lanz, Jeff (Julie) Anderson, and JulieAnn (Jesse) Rouse; grandchildren; Jace, Max and Riley; step-grandchildren, Cody, Megan, Jenna, Colin, Caleb and Leah; brother, Jay (Nancy) Ewert; and by many other relatives and friends.

See you in Heaven Doug! We all enjoyed your musicianship and good humor every time we played together. You stayed true to what you believed in, and always played like you meant it! Heaven can always use a good banjo…..

I am so sorry to hear of Doug’s passing, but know he is in a better place. I enjoyed meeting you Darlene and visiting with you both at our ’68 Class Reunion two years ago. We all were sorry that you were not able to meet with the rest of our classmates on Saturday, but were glad to have connected with you the evening before. Please know I share in your loss and pray your faith will sustain you through this most difficult time.

We are so sorry for your loss Darlene and families. Doug was a big part of our Open Arms music ministry back in the day…and a friend ever since. SO MANY memories with you and Doug, Darlene! We came across some pictures just the other day of when we all went to the Munsinger Clemens Gardens in St. Cloud, and the boys were pushing Edith in her wheelchair. So very many years of beautiful memories, from Open Arms, the Bluegrass Festivals to the evenings of campfires and good food! And speaking of campfires, Doug could have opened an outdoor restaurant with the campfire recipes alone that he knew and fed us with!!!
We are so very sorry for the earthly loss of this amazing man; and I just have to say, I could so clearly picture Edith standing in front of Jesus with her arms open wide to receive her Doug before anyone else..with that cute little southern laugh that she had!
We are all so blessed to have known this amazing, talented man and be able to call him, “friend”.
Love you much Darlene, and we are keeping you ever close in heart and prayers!

My heart and prayers go out to you, Darlene and to the rest of the family. Doug was an amazing musician and an instant friend to anyone he met. I will always remember his kind and gentle spirit.
Praising God for his promise that this earth is just our “temporary home.”
May your coming days be filled with wonderful memories of your times together.
God bless.

My wife will always remember the time Doug took our son to a Twins game. Nolan Ryan was pitching that day. I was honored to co-author the Chase Brook Jam Newsletter with Doug. Some of the best times of my life. Hope you’re jamming in Heaven. We love you.
