George A. Ernst, age 88, of Cambridge died August 30, 2020 at home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 3rd at Christ the King Catholic Cemetery in Cambridge.
George Anthony Ernst was born March 11, 1932 in Plymouth, Minnesota to Irven and Brigitta “Lydia” (Marx) Ernst. He graduated from Robbinsdale High School where he enjoyed being part of the wrestling team. On October 27, 1956 George was united in marriage to Rosalie Wanzong in Robbinsdale. They made their home in Wayzata until 1967 when they moved to Cambridge. George was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church. He worked at the Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant as an Ammunition Specialist. He loved working there and said it was his favorite job. George loved guns and he even made his own guns and loaded his own ammunition. After the plant closed, he worked as a machinist at Motek in Cambridge, retiring in 1997. George also enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, gardening, tinkering and the challenge of rebuilding anything from a chair to a tractor.
George Ernst passed away August 30, 2020 at home at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 19 days. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Cheri Ernst; granddaughter, Ilsa; and siblings, Louis and Irene.
George will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Rosalie; children, Denise (Kevin) Hemmer, Annette (Frank) Ernst, Tom Ernst, Andy (Julie) Ernst, Joanne (Les) Schebo, Richard (Char) Ernst, and Robert (Noelle) Ernst; grandchildren, Kevin, Casey, Jill, Matthew, Ashely, Angela, Dominic, Abraham, Elijah and Sebastian; great-grandchild, Eowyn; siblings, Charles, Dennis, Jerome and Cathy; many other relatives and friends.
