James Dale Johnson was born May 4, 1987 in Coon Rapids to Rick and Caren (Carlson) Johnson. He was raised in Isanti. His family moved to Princeton and he graduated from Princeton High School in 2005. He married Ashley (Thaemert) on March 22, 2013. Jim was employed by O’Reilly Auto parts.
He loved auto racing, whether it was a bike, go-kart or his truck down the road. He was very involved with ERX in Elk River racing in the Beater-X class. Jim’s black Jeep was a staple at the track and if you saw it there you would know you were in for one hell of a heat. When Jim was on the track, elbow hanging out the window he “was just chilling here like a duck on the pond”
Jim always went out of his way to make others feel welcome and would always be more than willing to give anyone the shirt off his back no matter the situation. He would grab a wrench or hammer, and do whatever was needed to get back out on the track or to get the snowblower going so he wouldn’t have to shovel.
Jim was dedicated to racing but his daughter Lexi was Jim’s true love and what drove him on and off the track.
A part of him will live in all of us even if you just met him for buying car parts he touched everyone. He was one of a kind.
“Always remember it’s all in how you take the corner” #00
Jim is survived by his wife, Ashley; daughter, Lexi; mother, Caren (Frank); father, Rick (Deb); 3 siblings, Steve (Annie) Johnson, Amy Cox and kids, Liam and Brantley, Joe (Dede) Johnson and kids, Melanie and Audrina; and by many other relatives and friends.

I have so many fond memories of Jim. He always had a smile and a joke. A couple of my fondest memories were when he tried to put Dave’s race car in the trailer and ran right into the trailer. Another one was my granddaughter Hailey. Everytime Jim came to the house she knew his ugly jeep, she would run out of the house yelling bimbo!bimbo! Jim always made time to play with her. Jim was a very special person to our family and he will be miss deeply.

So many special memories of the Johnson children when they were little. There was always so much love in this family. The cutest little kids with the biggest hearts and smiles!

Jim was a very special person. I worked with him at O’Reilly Auto for 3 years. Nothing better than a King James hug on a crazy day at work. He made an old retired guy love his part time job. Always a big smile and many thank you’d for just doing your job. He will be missed by many in the business. Thanks for being a special friend.

I loved him like a little brother, however to me he was a dear friend. Although our paths didn’t always run parallel, we made some fantastic memories and enjoyed the time god gave us.
He will be deeply and profoundly missed. He was a one of a kind guy, and a fantastic once in a lifetime friend. A wonderful father, friend and a family man. My deepest condolences to his family and daughter.
He rests with god and his soul has found peace, this isn’t goodbye. It’s only see you later. We’ll see you again Jimbo when it’s our time to get there. Hope you’ll have a cold beer waiting for us brother.
