Marshall H. Netteberg, age 64, of East Bethel died suddenly October 20, 2020 at Cambridge Medical Center. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Marshall Herman Netteberg, age 64, died suddenly on October 20, 2020 of cardiac arrest at Cambridge Hospital. His history with heart disease was not long and only started in May 2019 when he managed to survive a massive heart attack nicknamed “The Widowmaker.” Survived by wife Anita Wong, children Natalie and Otto Netteberg (ages 17,15) siblings Veronica Johnson, Olaf (Carlene), and many loved friends and family. Preceded in death by parents Ruth and Omer, sister Bonita. Marshall was Marty to some family and friends.
Marshall loved his adventures and enjoyed his time in the Peace Corps teaching woodworking, first in St. Vincent, The West Indies, then Uganda. A thrill seeker at heart he was down for anything, skiing, snowmobiling, roller blading and especially dirt bike racing, he completed Barstow to Vegas (450 miles) in 1988. He came back to Minnesota and used his creative and technical skills for his own countertop business, Counter Creations.
Marshall was quick to volunteer any and everything to support Natalie and Otto’s long list of activities including softball, baseball, theater and hockey. If anyone needed a helping hand, Marshall was there to help often before his own needs. Hard working, dedicated and ambitious is how Otto would describe his father. Marshall’s caring and humorous personality made him easy to talk to.
Anita and family extend a deep and heartfelt thank you to everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and support through this difficult time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

“Anita, Natalie, and Otto! I am so sorry and saddened by the loss of Marshall! He has been such a good friend and a great guy to work with for the past 30 years. He really loved his family! I know that by the hundreds of pictures that he showed me all the time. He was very proud of his kids and their sports and theater. Marshall was also the best countertop guy around. He would take on the oddest of jobs and perform the work in the best way possible. What a great guy and a great loss! With Love! ”

I will never forget the first time I met Marshall. In the EBIA parking lot on a snowy night, I came out of the rink and he was cleaning the fresh fallen snow off my car for me. Marshall was such a kind, gentle man. Watching him cheer on Otto at games, never sitting with the team parents because goalie parents hang out at the opposite ends behind the net to keep track of SOG. He would always check my work if I was keeping book for a game. You will be missed Marshall, deeply. Lots of love and prayers to you Anita, Natalie and Otto.

My husband and I want to extend our deepest sympathies and prayers for Anita, Natalie and Otto. While it has been many years since I have personally seen Marty, I remember him being around when I was growing up as a good friend to my uncle Lyle and aunt Nancy Hirsch. We passed their home on Co Rd 24 every time coming and going from my parent’s home. We’re very sorry to hear of his sudden loss — gone much too soon.

Anita, Natalie, Otto and Veronica:
We are so sorry to hear about Marshall. We are just heartbroken…
Our memories go back to East Bethel Elementary. They way Marshall would cheer the kids on at his minnow race booth until they were cheering with him. Or hanging out in the dugout at the Soderville games when Gav and Otto were little. Coaching and keeping score together during Saints middle school baseball. Driving past each other in St. Francis on the way to getting one of the kids, greeting each other with a honk and wave. We also enjoyed catching up before the many band concerts in the off season.
The pride that radiated from Marshall when he talked about Natalie and Otto or how he’d smile telling us the story about how Anita and him met, just like it was yesterday.
Marshall, we will still honk and wave when we drive by so you know we still think of you. When we yell “no pressure” at the next baseball game, it will be yelled in your memory.
Our dear, witty friend, we will miss you terribly.
Hugs to you all
Shane, Angie, Austin and Gavin

Your dad was always so pleasant and kind. I have enjoyed his company at the rink for years. He will be truly missed. Please let ya know if you need anything. Meals? Rides to the rink?

I was so very sorry to hear about Marty. He’s been around my whole life – it wasn’t at all strange that he was at so many Hirsch family parties – he was an honorary member of the family. I remember when you got married, Anita, and how proud he was when Natalie & Otto came along. Life gets busy and you don’t see people as much as you used to, but every time I ride past your house with my parents, we look your way and think about you all. Marty’s memory will be a blessing to so many, through the tears of missing him.

Anita, Natalie, Otto, Veronica,
I am so saddened to hear of Marshall’s passing! As his cousin, I remember fondly the family get togethers and Marshall and later along with his family were always present. What a joy he brought to the gatherings, he would light up the room with his stories and jokes, and most of all his laughter, it was very contagious. What a kind and selfless soul. I am very proud we were part of the same family. We are much in prayer for you all during this time for much comfort today and in the days ahead.

I am so saddened to hear this news. Marshall is a good man and it was a blessing to have crossed paths many years ago. My husband, Blake, and I have an enormous amount of respect and regard for him. I’m so sad that life took us in different directions and we lost contact or allowed life to get in the way of staying in touch.
I lift up all involved who knew Marshall. I especially pray for his sweet family for peace and comfort during this difficult time. I also lift up Doyle Peck, his cousin, whom we also have had the pleasure of knowing.
May God pour out all His peace, comfort, understanding, and blessings on you all as you navigate through this grief.
With Love,
The Savage’s (Blake & Sandy)
