Jeanette Mae Metcalf was born March 2, 1930 to Frank and Florence (Williams) Fors, in Pokegama Township, Pine County, Minnesota. One of 13 children, she was raised in several places near her birthplace and into Wisconsin. When Jeanette was about 12 years old, her mother passed and she moved to California to live with her sister, Arlene Johnson. She graduated school in 1946 then worked as a nanny for a Chinese couple who were doctors. She moved back to Minnesota in 1948 and began working for Sears. It was at Sears, where she met Edward Metcalf through a co-worker and they eloped on February 19, 1949. They made their first home in Minneapolis and had 3 children. In the summertime, they enjoyed living at the cabin near Lake Fremont in Zimmerman, Minnesota. In 1969, they purchased the farm in Floodwood, Minnesota and that August a tornado came through while the family was there. Jeanette enjoyed the farm, the animals, birds and gardening. She enjoyed collecting agates and making jewelry and watching the grandkids. They moved to Tennessee, living there from 1982 – 1991, where she learned to do stained glass and then moved to Florida, staying until 2002, when they moved back to Minnesota.
