Roy Richard Broeren was born December 12, 1930 in Medford, Wisconsin to Theodore and Helen (Treat) Broeren. He was raised and attended school in Medford, WI, graduating from Edgar High School. After high school Roy served his country in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. On April 16, 1955 he married Marion Kulawinski in Merrill, WI. They moved to Green Bay where they started their family. They moved and raised their family in Eden Prairie, MN and Princeton, MN.
Roy worked in sales and sales management, mainly in the paper industry. After retirement he worked part time for FEMA, most notably in New York following 9/11 and in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.
When he was younger Roy enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his passion was golf. After his retirement to their home in Voyager Village, Danbury, WI in 1993, Roy golfed as much as possible. Living right on the 7th fairway made daily golf very accessible. He achieved 4 registered holes in one and a 5th hole in one while out golfing with a friend.
Roy truly enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends, especially those times with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many wonderful family memories were made out on the lake on their pontoon.
Roy passed away July 13, 2021 in Cambridge at the age of 90 years, 7 months and 1 day. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three siblings, Jim, Jack and Carol. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Marion; 4 children Bruce (Judy) Broeren, Debra (Tim) Peterson, Laura Smith, Barry Broeren; 5 grandchildren, Zachary (Colleen), Jacob (Jessica), Ryan (Jalina), Brandon, Sara (Mike); 5 great-grandchildren, Melina, Mateo, Lucia, Norah and Jackson and many other relatives and friends.
Arline Weyenberg says
I always remember when I met Roy, I told him he reminded me of my father (also a Roy], and his gorgeous mop of hair. I spent many days later hoping that I hadn’t offended him.
