Keith Vernon Poverud was born May 18, 1957 in Morris, MN to Vernon & Janice (Reuss) Poverud. Keith attended elementary school in Danvers, MN through 5th grade, then they moved to Sauk Centre, MN where he graduated in 1975. Keith graduated from Jamestown College in Jamestown, ND in 1980. Keith’s most precious memories were from this time and he has shared many stories from his “glory days” of playing football and wrestling for the “Jimmies”. He went to Nationals in wrestling. He made lifelong friends that remained as close to him as family.
Keith was known as “Uncle Butch” to his many nieces and nephews. He was a great uncle that would take the kids on outings to the movies or camping, etc. to spend time with them and give Mom & Dad a break. He would often take 11 of them at one time! He would buy Christmas presents all year long at almost every truck stop across the country and would always need several hours to wrap all those presents.
His first years after college, Keith worked in respiratory therapy, and then as a salesman for Country Health home health equipment. Keith later worked as owner/operator of his own semi truck and drove for over 18 years all over the country.
Keith died on August 27, 2021, at the age of 64 years, in Stacy, MN at the home of his best friend (John Rene & his wife, Tammy). Sisters, Carol & Kathy were Keith’s caretakers under Hospice care. Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon & Janice Poverud, grandparents, Lester & Lucille Reuss, and Irvin & Edna Poverud.
Keith is survived by his siblings; Kathryn (Kenny) Strandberg, White Bluff, TN, Kenneth (Tensia) Poverud, San Antonio, TX, Carol (Ron) Krump, Kent, MN; nieces and nephews, Donavon (Nicole) Strandberg, Candice (Eric Jacquart) Strandberg, Amy (Brad) Patel, Martin (Jo-Lynda) Strandberg, Nicolas (Christy) Strandberg, Kendra (Jonathan) Wells, Ryan (Karely) Lee, Jeremy Poverud, Amanda Medina & Brandi Medina, Kristi Althoff, Michelle (Anthony) Holm, Thomas Althoff, Jim (Kyla Olthoff) Althoff and many great nieces & nephews. My thoughts are with Keith’s family and all his JC best guys. It’s sad to loose someone we care for so much. Hard for me to say goodbye to my first love. There was an unusual sense of harmony in this for me -that my mind was full of memories just the week before when I was back home in ND. Guess I was connected to him. Rest In Peace my friend.

I graduated with Keith in 1975 from Sauk Centre High School. Keith was a warm, caring person who has a great athlete and he was well liked by everyone in the school. His passing will leave a hole in this world.
