Bonnie Pengelly (Hove), age 79, of Shorewood died September 28, 2021 at home. Funeral service 1:00 P.M. Saturday, October 2nd at Strike Life Tributes in Isanti with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment Borgholm Cemetery, Bock, MN.
Bonnie Jean was born on December 27, 1941 to James and Lois Hove (Norlander) in
Cambridge, MN. She and her brother, James, 2 years her senior, grew up in Isanti, spending
most weekends at their cabin on Lake Mille Lacs. Bonnie married Kirk Pengelly on November 5,
1960 and welcomed their first baby, Kirk Huber Jr., just over a year later. Bonnie was blessed
with two more boys, Kent Lorne in 1961 and Brian James in 1969. Over the years, she moved
with her family many times, but it is well worth noting one of their moves, to Minnetonka
Beach. There they became close friends with neighbors, Ray and Butch, who led Bonnie to a
solid faith in Jesus Christ and His love for her. She carried that with her and passed it on to all
of her children! Bonnie stayed busy raising her three boys, domestic responsibilities coming
easily. She found some of her greatest delights in nourishing her family through wholesome
meals and delicious desserts. In 1978, Bonnie’s desire for a daughter to name Mary Kristine
(after her beloved grandmother) was fulfilled when she heard the doctor announce, “Be careful,
she is still attached.” After her two oldest boys became adults and her divorce final, Bonnie
started her own business with best friend, Nancy, cleaning homes. She struggled to make ends
meet, but never gave up trying to give her children all that she had to give. Bonnie’s life
presented a continuous flow of challenges, but she never failed to recognize the blessings
sprinkled throughout. Through her suffering she developed into a wholly generous, kind and
compassionate woman. Her down-to-earth, loving, and humorous ways left a lasting impression
on countless people. Her family, her humor, and most importantly, her unfailing faith in Jesus
Christ carried her through to the very end. Bonnie died in her home and safe haven of nearly 25
years, surrounded by her four children, her daughter-in-law, Kathleen, and her granddaughter,
Lydia. Bonnie is survived by her children, Kirk (Roxanne), Kent, Brian (Kathleen), and Mary, her
ten grandchildren (Becky, Michael, Kirsten, Ian, Finnley, Jonah, Ivy, Lydia, Violet, Joseph) and
two great-grandchildren (Mackenzie, Hannah).

Bonnie Jean, how I will miss just picking up the phone and picking up where we left off, even if we hadn’t talked in quite a while. We had that kind of friendship; a very special one, with so much in common, and yet different “like iron striking iron.” So many memories and wonderful times together. I can’t wait to see your joyous face, sparkling brown eyes and lovely smile when we meet again in glory. What a day that will be! And one we have talked about: with our Savior, FOREVER.
Love you always,
Rae
