Barbara Ellen Mellin was born April 27, 1953 in St. Paul, Minnesota to George and Irene (Karger) Koep. She graduated from Cambridge High School and then Cambridge Community College. Barb married Robert Mellin and they had a son, William. She worked for Isanti County as a financial worker for 32 years and 2 months, retiring on April 29, 2020.
Barb’s greatest love was the love she had for her family, especially her grandchildren. Being grandma to Bryce, Emma and Brady brought her immeasurable joy. Barb also enjoyed going to and having garage sales. When she wasn’t sharing her vast knowledge of True Crime and serial killers, she enjoyed organizing her garage and took great pride in decorating her home for the holidays.
Barb passed away unexpectedly October 27, 2021 at Cambridge Medical Center at the age of 68 years and 6 months. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Tom Koep; and two sisters, Diane Koep and Joan Stark. She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Bill (Tammy) Mellin; sister, Judy (Gene) Johnson; grandchildren, Bryce, Emma and Brady; sister-in-law, Gerri Koep; brother-in-law, Tom (DeDe) Stark; and by many other nieces and nephews and their children. Barb’s kindness touched us all and her memory will never be forgotten.

Aunt Barb was always so sweet, generous and caring. I always looked forward to Christmas Eves at her house. She gave us more than we deserved and was so thoughtful with all of her gifts. I am going to miss her so much and we will keep her close this holiday season.
Love you Aunt Barb💜

Barb made every holiday, especially Christmas, special for all of us at Isanti County Family Services. Everything had to be perfect, and we loved her for that! She and I had many long conversations about our shared interests–true crime and garage sales. Prayers lifted for the family and all your treasured memories.

So saddened by Barb’s passing. I loved being being her sister-in-law. I’ll miss her sense of humor, her bday and anniversary messages, her “spreads” when we all got together and I’ll especially miss her glowing Christmas cards filled with the love for Bill, Tammy & the kiddos! She was very special…

So sorry to hear this. Barb was a special person and will be missed by a lot of people. She was a thoughtful and kind person who managed to keep relationship bonds alive regardless of time, distance or circumstances. We had a lower 48 trip planned this summer and was hoping to reconnect with her after a lot of years gone by but it wasn’t to be. Condolences to Bill and family.
