James Victor Vogtlin was born July 30, 1947 in Little Falls to Victor and Edith (Balder) Vogtlin, the 2nd oldest of nine children. He attended Hillman Elementary School and Onamia High School. Later on he entered the Army in December of 1966 and served his country until November of 1968. He was stationed in Germany most of his service time. In 1969 Jim married his sweetheart, Carol Monson, at Hillman Catholic Church. Together they raised three daughters.
Jim worked multiple jobs, before getting his HVAC license. He installed AC and furnaces until his retirement at age 64 and continued to do this on his own for friends and family. Jim played softball in his younger years and was known to be a pretty good pitcher. Jim and Carol had a great trip in September of 2000 on an Alaskan cruise. He was known to help anyone with repairs or even some carpentry work, but he was quite picky how it had to be done! Jim truly loved his family and it showed in his final days of life.
James died Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at his home with his loving wife and family by his side at the age of 74 years, 5 months and 19 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol Ann Rogahn; and brother-in-law, John Taggart.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife Carol of 52 years; children, Debbie (Greg) Chismar, Wendy (Jon) Engen, Kari (Tom) Sampson; grandchildren, Kyle, Isaiah, Nick, Alyssa, Brendan, Kayla, Michael and Bryce; 7 great grandchildren, Aiden, Jayce, Ryder, Reina, Rain, Echo, and Noah; sisters, Nancy Taggart, Susie (Bob) Anderson, Linda (Keith) Carter; brothers, Victor, Jr. (Christine), Tom (Barb), Joe (Marki), and Mark (Connie); and many other family and friends.
Bob Steinbruck says
I met Jim when we moved to Coon Rapids some time ago. Jim, and brother Vic, completed installing a gas heater in my garage. Jim is an easy memory every time I use that garage during a Minnesota winter. I believe I would no longer live in Minnesota without Jim’s heater. Jim was easy to like!
Gordy and Madge Arnesen says
Jim’s brother Vic is my son-law. Gordy and I enjoyed him so much. Such a quick wit about him. He spent some time years ago doing heating and air for our new home. Gordy had some great times with him. Plus some golf games. Our deepest sympathy to all. He will be missed. Gods blessings.
