Vernon Delbert Strandlund passed away peacefully on May 6, 2022, six years and six months to the day his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Carrol, went to heaven. Vern was 90 years old.
Vern was born August 3, 1931 in Brunswick to Leo and Ethel Strandlund. After serving our country in the Marines during the Korean War, Vern married Carrol Lucht. They raised their three sons on their farm in East Bethel where Vern continued to live and farm even after Carrol passed. He was a diesel mechanic at Briggs Transportation and Midwest Diesel for many years and regularly enjoyed coffee time with a multitude of great friends. But Vern was happiest when he was surrounded by his family. He loved them dearly, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids.
Vern was preceded in death by his wife, Carrol, his parents, Leo and Ethel, brothers Archie and Ernest, and sister Jeanne. He is survived by sons, Steve Sr. (Cyndi), Curt (Diane), and Mark (Tyra); grandchildren Kristin (Sean), Katie (Igor), Steve Jr. (Kayti), Kyle, Kelli (Josh), Ashley (Andrew), Allison (Tucker), and Austin (Hanna); great-grandchildren, Isabella, Easton, Madeline, Mac, Hayden, Axel, Braden, Hudson, and Charlotte; brothers John (Sharon) and Marvin, sister Louise; nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Vern will be sadly missed after knowing him for 42 years. Our property borders his farm land near his home. Always fun watching the planting and harvesting processes each year, wondering what he would plant. Vern was generous letting our sons and grandchildren come up to the farm to check out the cows and horse, Shane. After Carol passed would visit and bring a homemade pies. Every now and then Vern would have a stray cow missing and would call us. This past year another missing cow found by my husbands drone. Searching made easier! May you and Carol unite in heaven with beautiful flower beds and golden corn fields. 🌽💐💕🙏🏻

My condolences to you all. I moved to our property which runs alongside Vern’s property in 1980 and have seen him work so hard but so happy to be doing what he loved each and every year since. I have the greatest amount of respect and admiration for Vern. Periodically he would pick up some fallen big branches that had fallen into the corn field from some GIANT Super poplars I planted and place them in my driveway, maybe with some irritation that he didn’t show or display. I felt bad but since had removed those awful trees. The Sandhill Cranes that frequent the fields will always remind me of Vern and I believe his Spirit will be around. Regards with Saddness,

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Vern. He was always the kindest, the most caring and sincere person. The tears we shed now are not for Vern, they are for those of us left behind here on earth. for he is now where he has longed to be, back in Carol’s arms. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him but richer for having shared our lives with him. Rest In Peace and love sweet Vern.

We moved kiddie corner to Vern in 2001. We have enjoyed talking with Vern and Carol and mostly their dog Daisy. Daisy liked to eat our birdseed in the front yard. Vern was always kind and full of information. He told us he bought his farm in 1964, and was very happy farming. We enjoyed watching the cows and their calves in the 221st St. field, and laughed when the next door neighbor boys rounded up a stray cow and brought it back to Verns’ field one time. We will miss watching Vern in his fields, and the Christmas tree he put out in his field after Christmas with lights on it. It was so pretty. May God rest his soul and unite him with Carol. Our sympathy is with the family and friends.

So sorry to hear about Vern’s passing. He was my mom’s cousin and good friend. The last time I saw him was at her funeral in Dec. He was always concerned about her and called often. He and Carrol are together now.
