James Henry Hansmeyer, age 74, of Oak Grove, Minnesota passed away June 14, 2022. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 21st, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 19001 Jackson St NE, East Bethel. A time for visiting will be held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to NAMI Minnesota.
Jim was born March 29, 1948 in Bertha, Minnesota to Leo and Bernice (Ostendorf) Hansmeyer. He was raised on the family farm in Clotho, Minnesota and graduated from Long Prairie High School in 1966. Following high school, Jim attended Moorhead State where he met Candice Einerwold. Jim served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he finished his degree at University of MN Morris and continued his education at the University of Minnesota Medical School.
On July 11, 1970, Jim married Candy in Eagle Bend, Minnesota. Before making their home in Oak Grove for 43 years, they lived in California, Morris, Minnesota & Minneapolis, Minnesota. Jim was a Chemist for the State of Minnesota for over 20 years. In retirement, he began a car dealership that kept him busy and entertained.
Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, skiing, playing cards, dice and cribbage with his friends and family. He liked planning family vacations, hunting and fishing trips with friends, spending time on the lake in the summer and in Akumal, Mexico in the winter.
He is survived by his wife, Candice; two children, Jami (Alex) Larkin, and Justin (Oyin) Hansmeyer; four grandchildren, Drew, Lexi, Adlai and Vivian; siblings Gene (Lila) Hansmeyer, Cecile (Dale) Schmidt, Joe (Toni) Hansmeyer, Len (Ardell) Hansmeyer, Rose (Tom McMasters) Hansmeyer, Theresa (Larry) Bowman, Mary Hansmeyer, Dorothea (David Schons) Hansmeyer, David (Sonya) Hansmeyer, Bernadette (Mark) Bennett, Monica (Mark Morrissey) Hansmeyer, Tony (Joyce) Hansmeyer, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Larry (Sue) Einerwold, Laurel Einerwold and Karin (Curt) Muth; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents Leo and Bernice Hansmeyer; parents-in-law William and Geneva Einerwold; brother Thomas Hansmeyer.
