LaVern “Murphy” Baldwin, age 88, of Isanti, passed away on July 3, 2022 at Cambridge Medical Center in Cambridge, Minnnesota. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 27 at Faith Lutheran Church in Isanti. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
LaVern “Murphy” Baldwin of Isanti, MN, passed away on July 3, 2022, at Cambridge Medical Center, Cambridge, MN. He was born on July 13, 1933, in Northwood, IA, to Leland and Olga (Dokken) Baldwin. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1951. He joined the Coast Guard in September of 1951 and served until March 1954. On June 26, 1955, he married his sweetheart Delores (Dee) Gentz at Deer Creek Lutheran Church in Carpenter, IA. To this union was born: Randall, Jason and Sandra. Murphy received his B.S. from Mankato State University. He obtained his Master’s degree from South Dakota State University in Brookings and his Specialist’s degree from University of Wisconsin-Superior. He began his education career as a business teacher. He later became a principal and then a superintendent. He loved working with his students and his teachers. After 33 years, Murphy retired from education and he and Dee opened a supper club in Westport, MN. Six years later, he retired to the golf course. He loved spending time with his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. The family cabin on Lake Minnewaska was a place where many family memories were created.
Murphy is survived by wife Dee of 67 years, son Randall (Bonnie Kay), son Jason (Ann) and daughter Sandra Busch. Grandchildren Daniel (Jen), Tayes (Ron), Paige (Adam), Spencer (Sophie), Seth (Amy), Uriah (Jenna), and Hezikiah (Victoria). Great-grandchildren Jocelyn, Noah, Murphy, Raelynn and Remington. He is also survived by siblings Roger (Violet), Bonnie (Jim), Nola and Leland Jr. and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Zona, Terry and Leon. He will be missed by all of his family and many friends.

This is the perfect picture of LaVern. My fondest memories of him are driving the boat at the cabin ! Thanks to him, I learned to water ski!
