Douglas Clarence Nelson was born July 17, 1948 in Braham, Minnesota to Clarence and Lorraine (Stone) Nelson. He was the second of four children. He was raised in Isanti attending Isanti/Cambridge schools. Doug graduated from Cambridge High School, Class of 1966. After graduation he joined the U.S. Air Force and proudly served for 3 years. On October 3, 1970 Doug married Kathy, the love of his life. They were blessed with one child, Julie and later gained a son-in-law, Andy, and they blessed Doug and Kathy with two grandchildren, Katie and Connor. Doug was very proud of and loved his family, especially his grandchildren who meant the world to him. Doug was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a valued friend to many.
Doug was a self-employed over the road truck driver for over 50 years and drove over a million miles. He loved being in the truck driving the country. He was very passionate about his trucking career and his truck. It was always clean and the chrome was polished and he had the best lit up trailer as well. Doug liked to keep busy and he loved being in his garage. After retiring from self-employment, he went to work for Ruby’s Pantry in North Branch driving truck, which was a very rewarding job. Doug enjoyed spending time with his family, attending his church and sharing stories of his adventures, going to bible studies and most mornings he enjoyed meeting the guys at the corner for conversation, coffee and donuts.
Doug went home to the Lord on February 27, 2024 at the age of 75 years, 7 months and 10 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Lorraine and his brother, Rodney.
Doug will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Kathy; daughter, Julie (Andy) Greeler; grandchildren, Katie and Connor; siblings, Sharon (David) Gusk and Don (friend Lynn Neifert) Nelson; and many nieces and nephews.
