Dad was a huge animal lover!
He had many special dogs over the years, taking in strays sometimes and spoiled them rotten (he always had a Milk Bone treat in his bib overalls pocket. We raised 300,000 Gold n’ Plump chickens/year and had feeder pigs back in 1981-84 and milked beautiful registered jerseys during my 7th-12th grades. Dad loved watching the deer (Mom liked the fawns) on their land and put out salt licks and No Hunting signs for them. Dad also took a lot of pride in his properties, always mowing and trimming each week and snow plowed the long country driveways. He stayed active and enjoyed the little things in life like family meals together and a big bowl of popcorn with some night time TV. Dad would include us with his kichen-takeover projects like his sweet pineapple and clove Easter and Christmas hams, Thanksgiving feasts with the best homemade dressing and gravy, vegetable beef soup with dumplings (“dumbos”) and popcorn balls as we all cried “Ouch, ouch!” with hot buttery hands. He always had mints in his bibs pockets, frequently handing them out to friends and family., “Here, have a peppermint.”

Dave will certainly be missed. He was one of our first customers having bought a tractor from Lance more than 45 yrs ago. But he would become more than a customer to us. He’d stop by almost every morning for years to have a cup of coffee and 1 cookie “Don’t tell Jan” he’d said. He had a great sense of humor, giggling while telling jokes and stories from his younger days. We appreciated and enjoyed the friendship we had with him and his family over the years.
