Myrna M. Johnson, age 85, of Shoreview died April 3, 2024. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 1:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M. Saturday, April 20th at Strike Life Tributes in Isanti. A family graveside service will follow at Cambridge Union Cemetery.
Myrna was born on September 23, 1938 in Cortland, Nebraska to Lawrence and Etha Marguerite Gilmore. Myrna lived around the Cortland area graduating from Adams High School. She then moved to Minnesota to attend Bethel College in St. Paul. There, while attending local church services at Elim Baptist in Minneapolis, she met the love of her life George W. Johnson. They were married on October 22, 1961 in Minneapolis. They lived briefly on the east side of St. Paul before they moved to what turned out to be their forever home in Shoreview. There they raised daughter, Christi, and son, Kevin. Myrna was devoted to her family supporting husband, George, through his long term health disability until he passed away on February 17, 1991. She loved and supported her children and grandchild in countless ways throughout her life. Myrna had a great love of singing. A beautifully voiced alto, Myrna sang in high school chorus and throughout her life in many church and traveling choirs. She was a wonderfully creative seamstress and knitter, creating many clothes, costumes, quilts and afghans for family and friends. Myrna remained in her home until passing on to her heavenly home on April 3, 2024. Her smile and spirit will be missed by all.

Christi and Kevin,
I’m sending my sympathy to you two in the loss of your Mother, Myrna. I knew Myrna and George at Elim Baptist in Mpls. and was part of our Merry Mates group. Lots of wonderful memories of these dear friends. As years pass and some of us move away, we still remember the good times of fellowship in our home and church activities.
My son Chad sent me the news of your Mother’s passing and obituary. He and my daughter Dawn remember you two also. God bless, comfort and give you peace and strength.
A friend from Elim Baptist church

Your mother was such a faithful member of my late husband’s choral group, Cantati Evangelica. I always looked forward to seeing her at concerts when the group continued under a new name.
May you be comforted with the cherished memories of your mother and be strengthened with God’s special love in your loss.

Since I just learned of Myrnas passing, I want to extend my sympathy to her family! We were college roommates at Bethel and chumming around together. I was also a brides maid in her wedding! The last time I saw her was an accidental meeting in a Dairy Queen restaurant. Mu daughter had just delivered her son and they were off on a date with the baby and we were left to go and get something to eat and ran into Myrna. We had a wonderful visit catching up after many years.
