Lonnie Clyde Shelley was born October 23, 1941 in Dyersburg, Tennessee to Morris and Mary (Pipkin) Shelley. He was raised and attended school in Newburn, Tennessee. Lonnie traveled to Mountainview, California to work and that was where he met Sharon Strike. On November 11, 1967 they were married at Elim Baptist Church in Isanti. They were active at Elim for many years serving with youth group and several committees. They later became members of Country Roads Baptist Church in Stacy where they also faithfully served.
When Lonnie was younger and healthy he loved snowmobiling, hunting and fishing. One of his hobbies was making fishing lures and rods and selling them. He also enjoyed gardening. Lonnie had many jobs before he was injured including working with the sheriff’s department, tow truck driver, semi-truck driver, dog catcher, door to door salesman, electrician, plumber, carpenter, mechanic on cars, trucks, and heavy equipment. He was a jack of all trades and preferred to do the work himself if he could. He was always looking to see what he could do to make it easier for others.
Lonnie will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sharon; daughter, Maria (Dominique Cavelier); son, Matthew; sisters, Jane (Harold) Clark and Ann (Sonny) Crutchfield; sisters-in-law Marlys (Tom) Nelson, Wanda Strike, Sharon K Lewis, cats, Luna, Princess, and Tiger, and by many other relatives and friends. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Lawrence E & John Ed and an infant brother Floyd Mack.
Ryan O says
Lonnie Shelley was an amazing friend and brother in the Lord. I will always remember his sense of humor and his love. First, he loved God and trusted in Christ for forgiveness. As a result, we have confidence and rejoice that he is in a much better place and that he’s in heaven with God. He also loved his family deeply. Next, he loved to have fun and spend time on the water fishing. I think he was the first parishioner who ever took me fishing and it is something I will always remember and cherish. I will always remember not just fishing together but all the special moments we had together. He will be deeply missed and my condolences and love to his family.
