Margaret L. Raze, age 85, of Oak Grove died December 27, 2024 at home. A Celebration of Life will be held 12-6 PM , Saturday, May 10th at Margie’s house.
Margaret Louise “Marge” “Peggy” Raze was born February 1, 1939 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Albert and Hildegard (Hieb) Daun. She was raised in South St. Paul and was a proud graduate of the class of 1957. Her first job was a proof reader at West Publishing in St. Paul. She married Varyl V. Raze on August 22, 1959. They lived in South Minneapolis for five years, where their four children were born. They built a new home in 1964 in what is now Oak Grove, Minnesota.
Marge was a quilter, having made over fifty quilts for family and friends. She was an organic gardener and hobby farmer on their five acres and enjoyed canning, baking her own bread and many apple pies. She also created silk flowers for weddings, etc. She made them from scratch in the beginning for all of her four children’s weddings, several of her 12 grandchildren’s, many nurse friends at work, other family members and friends. Marge enjoyed creating beauty with silk or real flowers.
Marge went back to college after her husband died in 1987 of a brain tumor. She had cared for both her parents and then her incredible husband, Varyl, for over five years. Her path in the medical field was interrupted by cancer, chemotherapy, and a serious auto accident. She had a career that she loved at Mercy Hospital, primarily in the ICU, until her retirement in 2005.
After retiring, Marge worked at the food shelf, NACE. She was an election judge, in which she prided herself, and was in many ministries at her church for over fifty-five years.
Marge loved meeting people and was told by many that they were drawn to her smile. Marge loved her 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and was generous as she could be to show how much she loved all of them. She loved her family and friends so much and tried to make a difference in this world. She always sent a card for everyone’s birthdays and all holidays. Marge continued to live in the home place for over 60 years, until her passing.
Marge entered heaven on December 27, 2024 at her home in Oak Grove at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 26 days. She was preceded in death by her husband, Varyl V. Raze; baby grandson, Nicholas G. Raze; great-grandson, Joseph Sanborn; parents, Albert A. and Hildegard Daun; and brothers, Gerald Edward Daun and Albert J. Daun.
Marge is survived by children, Varyl A. (Barbara) Raze, Gaylen (Kristine) Raze, Damon (Sandra) Raze and Amber (Glenn) Kampa; sister-in-laws, Sherilyn Daun, Judy Daun; eleven grandchildren, twenty one great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Marge was like family to me. When I left for the service in 1983, she wrote to me in boot camp and continued through my time in the service. Over the years she sent me Christmas cards to stay in touch. I’m so glad my sister Barb Lorge took me to visit her the last time I was in Minnesota. Even though she was suffering with the cancer progressing, she still enjoyed the visit. I will miss her strong hugs.
Marge was a dear friend whenever there was a family gathering you could count on Marge being there with food to share. If you were going thru a tough time Marge would be there with cards and help. She was quite a lady with a BIG heart and a remarkable memory. She will be missed
I worked with Margie for several years while she was a PCA on the oncology unit. Oh I loved her so much and our friendship continued thru letters in recent years. I’m so sad I didn’t know sooner. It just dawned on me I didn’t get her Christmas card this year! I have so many stories, we were often partnered together and I just loved working with her and was so sad when she had her car accident. I remember her working on those silk flowers! Snd how she loved her husband and family. I look forward to seeing her again in Heaven!
