Margarette Mae LaBeau was born to Arthur and Evelyn Doble on March 9, 1930, at her grandmother’s home in Stanchfield, MN. She attended Springvale Baptist Church growing up and was baptized in the Stanchfield Creek. She grew up in the area and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1948.
She married Clarence LaBeau on October 2, 1948, at her grandmother’s home in Springvale. Clarence was in the military, and she lived for a brief period in Texas before returning and living in Minneapolis and Fridley until they moved to Isanti in 1962. She worked at the Cambridge Nursing Home for 30 years. After retiring she started working at the Teddy Bear Care Daycare in Isanti and worked there for 14 years before retiring at the age of 87. Shortly after retiring “again” in 2017 she was a volunteer with the Foster Grandparent Program at the Isanti Elementary School. She continued this until Covid hit in 2019.
Maggie has been a caregiver her entire life. She always said caring for others comes natural for her, as the oldest of fourteen children. At the age of twelve she stayed with her grandmother for a time and helped take care of her and one of her uncles. She cared for many children throughout her time at Teddy Bear Care and the Foster Grandparent Program and she was, and still is known to them as “Gramma Maggie.” She also had a heart for volunteering and did so at Ruby’s Pantry and the Isanti Senior Dining Center. When she began having some health struggles, she was not able to volunteer so she started sending to cards to others. It filled her heart, and she felt like she was still helping others by brightening their day with a card. She moved into Isanti Prairie Cottages after breaking her hip and a fall and continued to be a light and spread joy, love and encouragement to the workers and residents there with kind words and cards. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Maggie is survived by five children; Vicky Wills, Becky LaBeau, Clarence (Gwen) LaBeau Jr., Randy (Sue) LaBeau, and Melody; nine grandchildren; Craig, Corey, Benjamin, Clinton, Travis, Colter, Randi Margarette, Logan, and Raelynn; five great-grandchildren; Jackie, Charles, Jacob, Eva, and Jenika; five sisters, three brothers, and many other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, grandson Preston LaBeau, three brothers Jerry and Les, Howard and two sisters Evelyn and Sandra.

I met Margarette over 40 years ago when we both were working at Cambridge health care. She was an amazing woman, always had a kind word and a smile that was infectious. Even though I haven’t seen Margarette for many years, I have thought of her over the years.
Becky and Melody and family, I’m sorry for your loss. You had a gem of a mother.
