Douglas King Easter was born April 3, 1942 in Hallock, MN to Garfield and Muriel (née Hare) Easter. Doug moved with his family when he was 15 to Libby, MT where he enjoyed the outdoors. In 1965 Doug joined the Navy so he could see the world. During this time he served in the Vietnam War. After his service, he attended college at the University of Minnesota, Morris. He then moved to Lake George MN where he met and married his wife, Nancy in 1979. He finished his degree at Bemidji State University. They moved to Mora for several years where Doug worked for the state. They moved to Cambridge in 1983 where he lived for the last 40 years.
He was a kind and caring individual, his easy going nature and compassion for others was reflected in his life at both home and work. He was an amazing bonus Dad to his stepchildren, and a long time advocate for those with developmental disabilities.
Doug was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; his parents; his brother, Don; and his sister, Lorelei Vodden (Mick).
He leaves behind to mourn their incredible loss, his bonus kids, stepson, Jeff Erickson and stepdaughter, Darcy Fritche (Buster); his sister, Penny Thorstad (Mike); grandchildren, Rachel Smith (Lenny), Adam Fritche (Laura), Madeline Erickson and Joseph Fritche; 5 great grandchildren; and many beloved nephews and nieces.
I got to meet Doug at Prairie Cottages where me Mom resides. I loved talking with him and his smile always made me smile. I would share my fishing pictures with him and he enjoyed that. I will miss him.
I knew Doug many years ago. He was always so nice to me. I loved talking to him & listening to his stories, and his thoughts about what what was going on in our world. Him and Nancy were fun people to be around and I know he loved her kids like they were his. My sympathy goes to all his family during this time of loss.
I am Doug’s nephew, and the son of Donald and Evelyn Easter. Doug lived with us for a short time after he completed his Navy service in the mid-sixties. I remember him has a highly intelligent, kind man with a unique perspective of the world. I remember as a child listening to Doug and my Dad having spirited discussions of the events and politics of the day and having such a wonderful time in doing so. He along with my folks taught me to question and think for myself. I have wonderful memories of Doug and will miss him.
