Kathy Sydnes, age 78, of Cambridge passed away May 2, 2026 at home. A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Strike Life Tributes in Cambridge, Minnesota, with an opportunity to share memories at noon.
Kathleen “Kathy” Sydnes was born on April 26, 1948, in Canby, Minnesota, the eldest of six closely connected siblings. She possessed unmatched energy from an early age, pouring herself into work on the family farm, mentoring her younger siblings, and participating in several academic clubs.
After high school, Kathy moved to the Twin Cities, where she embarked on a rewarding career as a young female professional. She took pride in every role she held, ultimately finding her best skill in identifying the best skills in others.
Kathy met the love of her life, Joel, in the summer of 1971. He had a twinkle that only her sparkle could match. They welcomed their daughter, Cameo, in 1972 and the three shared a special bond as a small family. Kathy and Joel later settled in Aitkin, Minnesota, where they created a beautiful home surrounded by Joel’s woods and Kathy’s garden. Together, they were a testament to enduring love, mutual respect, and true partnership.
Kathy will be lovingly remembered as a mother, grandmother, sister, and auntie — but by all as their very best cheerleader.
Kathy passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the age of 78. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joel Sydnes; her parents, George Devorak, Violet Schumacher and her husband, Ray Schumacher; her siblings, Charles Devorak, Patricia Devorak, and Joseph Devorak; and her siblings-in-law, Dale Sydnes, Edie Peterson, and Susie Bonstrom.
Kathy is survived by her daughter, Cameo and son-in-law, Chad Zehnder; her granddaughters, Sydney and Natalia; her sisters, Mary (Rick) Garrison and Lori (Mark) Nothom; her sisters-in-law, Nancy (Rocky) Waite and Trudy (Vern) Holm; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
