In Loving Memory of Tony
Tony lived a life defined by love, dedication, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to the people who meant the most to him. His greatest legacy is not only in the work he accomplished, but in the lives he touched and the family he cherished.
Growing up in various towns throughout Illinois, Tony eventually made his home in Minnesota. It was there that fate stepped in at the bowling alley, where he met the love of his life, Janet. Their love story led them to marry on June 27, 1987, in Cambridge City Park, where Judge Dehn performed his very first wedding ceremony. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and countless treasured memories.
For 38 years, Tony worked as a subcontractor for Custom Pools. He was known as an exceptionally skilled craftsman who took pride in his work. His strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to doing things the right way earned the respect of everyone who worked alongside him. He believed that hard work was one of life’s greatest values, and he instilled that same dedication and perseverance in his children, teaching them by example what it meant to work hard, be dependable, and take pride in a job well done.
Those who knew Tony will remember not only his work ethic but also his special sense of humor. He had a way of making people laugh, lightening the mood, and bringing smiles to those around him. His generosity extended far beyond his work. He was always willing to share his time, his knowledge, and his helping hands with anyone who needed them.
Tony loved spending time on the golf course with friends, bowling, playing cards, grilling for family gatherings, and cooling off in the pool.
Above all else, Tony’s heart belonged to his family. He loved being a husband, a father to his three girls, and a grandpa. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and there was nothing he enjoyed more than watching them grow. Whether it was Grandparents Day at school, a recital, a birthday celebration, or any special milestone, Tony was there, cheering them on, celebrating their accomplishments, and making each one feel deeply loved. He didn’t just say family was important; he showed it through his presence, his encouragement, and the time he devoted to those he loved most. He treasured every moment and created memories that his family will carry with them forever.
Though he is gone too soon, he will be deeply missed. His spirit will continue to live on in the lessons he taught, the memories he created, and the love that will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Richard “J.J.” and Mae Belle Horner; and Charles and Mary Stewart.
Tony is survived by his loving wife, Janet; daughters, Jill Kahring, Ashley (John) Rotgers, and Carissa Stewart; grandchildren, Katie and J.J., and by other relatives and many friends.
