Shane Michael Hanson passed away at 8:30 am on Sunday, September 27th, 2026, at the age of 57, in his home in Lake George. A public Celebration of Life for Shane will be held at the St. Francis American Legion from 4-8 PM on Friday, October 9th, 2026. In place of flowers, please consider donating to Holly for hospice care and to help her stay in the beautiful lake home.
Shane Michael Hanson passed away at 8:30 am on Sunday, September 27th, 2026, at the
age of 57, in his home in Lake George. Shane’s body left this earth through a very difficult path
after his 2-year battle against colon cancer. Shane’s soul, though, left with his kindness, humor,
incredible artistic talent, his contagious smile and laugh, and his unconditional love that he
poured out to all who knew him. He deserved more time. Both of Shane’s hands were held tight
by Holly and Katie to ensure he was never alone on his transition to his Lord.
Shane was born on June 19, 1969, in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, to Kenneth Marvin
Hanson and Judith Marie Hanson. Two and a half years later, Shane became a big brother to his
beloved brother, Monte Hanson. The family later moved to East Bethel, where Shane and Monte
spent countless happy days enjoying the great outdoors. From fishing and hunting to
snowmobiling and riding ATVs, Shane developed a deep love for the outdoors.
Shane graduated from St. Francis High School in 1987 and then attended Anoka
Technical College, where he earned his degree in Auto Body. His love of working with his hands
and creating artistic masterpieces in the automotive world became an important part of who he
was.
In 1997, Shane worked at Saxon Motors in Elk River and met Lynn Armstrong. He
became a stepfather to Katie (Grassini) Liekhus. He bought his dream home and built his own
shop for his legendary business, Paint by Shane. Shane was the absolute best stepdad.
In 2010, Shane married Linda Murney, and they resided in Ramsey. They continued his
painting legacy through Paint by Shane and Blaine Auto Body. They had many pets, including
his big baby Doug. They also attended one of his bucket-list places, SEMA in Las Vegas.
In 2024, Shane and Holly came together in Oak Grove. They spent time soaking in
endless lake sunsets and loving on their kitty Simba, “kitty mau mau”. They enjoyed a trip to
Alabama and Florida last year that gave them memories for a lifetime. Holly was there to care
for Shane until his last breath.
Shane was preceded in death by his parents, Judith (Senart) Hanson and Kenneth Hanson.
Shane is survived by his girlfriend Holly Olson; daughter Katieann Liekhus (Josh); stepmother,
Peggy Hanson; brother Monte Hanson (Anissa); stepsisters Jenny Merkle and Becky (Ed)
Garagiola; grandchildren Maddox, Noah and Taya; many nieces and nephews, cousins, and
countless friends.
